Yesterday I had the opportunity to slip away from work to check
out the Sculpture Symposium here at the Town Basin.
I want to go back with my camera at the end of the
week to take some pics of the works-in-progress.
I also stopped off at Reyburn House
Art Gallery and had a quick look around.
There was a couple of sculpture exhibitions on.
"Corrugation" by Miriam von Mulert
Miriam von Mulert was born in Germany in 1970 where she trained as a wood carver. In 1994 she came to New Zealand and has been here since. During this time she has been working at different museums throughout New Zealand, including Te papa, as well as doing her own work, commissions and taking part in sculpture symposia. Her latest exhibition is called ‘Corrugation’. The concept for Corrugation’ derives from the idea to use a traditional building material and transferring it into a contemporary context by carving corrugation into timber and limestone. Fascinated by the way light and shadow is cast over the ridges and grooves of corrugation which is further enhanced by the subtle chisel marks on the timber surface.
