Colour Basics #2

Moving along now...Colour Basics #2

I spent the morning/early afternoon looking up information about colour on the internet. I printed out several articles about colour basics and pasted them in my Visual Diary. Then I googled monochromatic, analogous and complimentary art images and printed out a few to add to my visual diary for inspirational purposes.
I had fun doing this and look forward to trying out some Colour Basic exercises.

Angry at myself...

After a laspe of a number of days doing no art, I thought I better get some supplies out and spend some time this afternoon working on...something...anything
I started with free-hand drawing of my name in block letters,
first a mirrored version.. then the "right" way...
and then I did a composition drawing based on the railway line photo.
After that I tried some sketches and then a painting of an arum lily.
I had high ideals of what it would look like but in the end it ended in the bin.

I stared at a blank piece of paper for a while
willing the energy to try again,
and end up painting this...
I feel so ANGRY at myself not being able to get out what's in "there"
Argh!!

Resource 3 Exercises

Resource 3: Drawing for all your worth  #2

Exercise 3 - work with a photo
I've used a graphite pencil for this

Exercise 5 - draw from a photo or photocopy, upside down
I am really happy with this (Kaeli's nose)
(I used pastels for this one)

Exercise 6 - Take a photocopy and rip it into pieces
I'm not 100% happy with how this turned
but it was an interesting exercise
(graphite pencil with orange pastel)

..and I worked some more on my leaf painting, adding some pastel
..it's still not finished but not sure what else I want to do on this
so have put it aside again :0)

I googled sculpture to get some inspiration and ideas...
 I love love LOVE this!

Out and about with my camera..

This morning I went out walking with my camera...

I love how the sun is shining through the trees...and the contrast of the dark foreground againt the lighter background. Love the composition too...
My "favourite" tree is in leaf! How have I missed this
every morning I've walked past it??
Love the depth of field in this one...
Loving these lily pics. I am going to try drawing these..
I took a number of photosfrom different angles
so as to have plenty of choice
A couple of B/W photos with some editing (below)

Project X - Part One/Two

My Brief for "New Beginnings" Canvas
  • Experiment using mixed media on a canvas
  • New product to try: Gesso
  • Incorporate materials and techniques I used for my Travelling Egg Project: fabric, ribbon, polyester batting (maybe?) stamping with ink, Plaster of Paris (maybe?) hessian, paper mache, paint, sewing, card/paper
  • use quotes about New Beginnings found while brain-storming and researching for my Travelling Egg Project
My Research: I spent a couple of hours yesterday researching mixed media techniques and applying/using other mediums, like gesso and plaster of paris.
I printed out some information from a couple of websites that I will put in my visual diary for reference.  I also printed out a few images that I like for
varying reasons and will include them in my visual diary for inspirational purposes.

While researching I came across a website that I am interested
in experimenting with for the future about Image Transfer Techniques

Seeing the HUGE numbers of artwork out there on the internet
left me feeling a bit like a little fish in a giant ocean!
There is such creative amazingness out there but I shouldn't
let that stop me from exploring who I am artistically.....

Resource DVD's - 3-6

I spent the day in bed yesterday. Not because I was sick...but because I needed a "stay-in-bed-all-day" day. It was great! and I spent all day watching DVD's. The Resource DVD's from 3-6. I got a lot out of watching them, as it's given me a visual idea of what I'm working towards and going to be doing in the future.

I think my favourite would have to be the print making session with Marci Tackett on the Resource 6 DVD. I was also greatly encouraged by some of the things that was being said by varying tutors and even Jonathan Milne himself. That art needs to be free...let go off..and fun, experimental. That's all part of the process. Finding what works..and what works for you. Playing with colour and tone, form and shape....and by using a variety of medium to find what "does it" for the individual artist.

So, yes, I'm feeling more confident about where I'm going in this thing called Art Expression. Still exploring and will do so until I "find" it!

Some of the other things I'm looking forward to is the mask/casting (my dd16 has agree to be my model) and the 3D Sculpture. I've never done either before so it will be fun trying something new.

Also, I think I have decided on my Project X ..after much consideration I'm going to do what I orginally thought of doing...and that's a mixed media canvas using the products from my Travelling Egg Project and it will be called "New Beginnings" ..I'm just writing up my brief now.

Playing with pastels

I'm not sure how or even if this fits into my art course programme but going to share it becuae I had fun experimenting and think that's part of my problem. I'm afraid of myself. I'm scared to make a make a mistake. To ruin something. I'm not sure why i think/feel like that but it was something I realised yesterday...
So I got out the pastels and set to work enjoying the process of applying to the paper and using my fingers to smooth and blend it...
 and experiemted with different colours...
...until i felt more confident in experimenting and letting go...
These are all A4 in size...a "safe" size
Then I got out the paints and I'm currently working on an A3 sized painting.
I'll share it once it's finished :0)
